Crisis in the Middle East Prompts Airlines to Suspend Flights

The tension in the Middle East has led to international airlines taking precautionary measures to ensure the safety of their passengers and crew. These airlines have either suspended flights to the region altogether or have adjusted their flight paths to avoid affected air space. The following is a list of some of the major airlines that have been impacted by the crisis:

Aegean Airlines Takes a Hit

Aegean Airlines, the Greek carrier, has cancelled all flights to and from Beirut, Amman, and Tel Aviv until August 22nd.

Air Algerie Faces Temporary Suspension

The Algerian airline, Air Algerie, has temporarily suspended flights to and from Lebanon until further notice.

Air Baltic’s Travel Adjustments

Latvia’s airBaltic has cancelled all flights to and from Tel Aviv until August 25th.

Air France-KLM’s Flight Cancellations

Air France-KLM has decided to cancel all flights to and from Tel Aviv until October 26th. However, Air France has resumed service between Paris and Beirut after a two-week suspension. Their unit, Transavia, has also cancelled flights to and from Tel Aviv until March 31, 2025, and flights to Amman until November 3rd.

Air India Suspends

The Indian flag carrier, Air India, has suspended scheduled flights to and from Tel Aviv until further notice.

Delta Air Lines Extends Suspension

Delta Air Lines, a U.S. carrier, has extended the suspension of flights between New York and Tel Aviv until August 31st.

The UK budget airline, EasyJet, stopped flying to and from Tel Aviv in April and plans to resume flights on March 30, 2025.

Finnair continues to avoid Iranian airspace, which may result in longer flight times to and from Doha.

Italy’s ITA Airways has extended the suspension of flights to and from Tel Aviv until August 21st.

LOT, the Polish flag carrier, has suspended flights to Tel Aviv and Beirut until August 26th.

The Lufthansa Group, which includes carriers Swiss International Air Lines, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and Eurowings, has extended the suspension of flights to and from Tel Aviv, Tehran, Beirut, Amman, and Erbil through August 26th.

Europe’s biggest budget airline, Ryanair, has cancelled flights to and from Tel Aviv until September 30th due to “operational restrictions”.

Singapore Airlines has stopped flying over Iranian airspace and is using alternative routes to ensure the safety of their flights.

Tarom’s Temporary Resumption

Romania’s flag carrier, Tarom, has extended the suspension of flights to Beirut until September 2nd, while temporarily resuming flights to Tel Aviv and Amman until August 23rd.

United Airlines, based in Chicago, has suspended flights to Tel Aviv indefinitely. They initially suspended daily service between Newark, New Jersey and Tel Aviv on July 31st due to security concerns.

Vueling, the Spanish low-cost airline owned by IAG, has cancelled all flights to Tel Aviv and Amman until October 26th.

Britain has advised UK airlines not to enter Lebanese airspace from August 8th until November 4th due to the “ risk to aviation from military activity.”
